Hot water Cost Saving Tips

The following are some simple things that you can do to reduce the running cost of your new hot water system.

Electricity Tariff
Ensuring your water heater is connected to the correct and most economical electricity tariff will significantly reduce your hot water bill. Please refer to the Saxon brochure which identifies the correct electrical tariff to connect to for the number of people in your particular household.

Water Heater Flow Rate
The water heater flow rate of your Saxon water heater should be adjusted to between 9 – 12 litres per minute depending on the size of the water heater. Water heaters with capacities between 70 litres to 140 litres should have the flow rate set at 9 litres per minute. Larger capacity units from
180 litres up to 400 litres should have the flow rate set at 12 litres per minute. This is a simple procedure that can be done with a 9 litre household bucket. Please refer to the instructions about adjusting flow rate as set out in the service section of the Saxon website.

Water Efficient Shower Roses
The installation of a water efficient shower rose will significantly reduce the amount of hot water used by your household. Hot water flow rates can be reduced to either 9 litres or 12 litres per minute. These shower heads are designed to disperse lower flow rates of water in an efficient manner. A 12 litre per minute flow rate is quite satisfactory for most households.

Flow Control Devices
Contact your local plumber regarding the installation of flow controlling devices at your hot water outlets, such as the kitchen sink, vanity basins etc. This can reduce the amount of hot water used by your household and result in lower electricity accounts.

Top Up Your Water Heater
It is recommended that your water heater should be topped up every time you receive your electricity account. This will ensure that the water heater is working to maximum efficiency. Simply follow the instructions set out in the service section of this website.
