How to Unclog your Bathroom Tub Drain
Here’s some easy do it yourself plumbing:
Your bathroom tub is bound to get clogged at one point. Hair, grease, and other debris accumulate in the drain slowly and prevent water from flowing. Bathroom maintenance should be one of the top priorities on your list. You can find a number of products that help unclog your drain at any household items store or you can call an emergency plumber. On the other hand there are also a number of ways you can unclog your bathroom tub drain all by yourself without the use of any chemicals.
The supplies you will need are:
- 1. Hot Water
- Round Plunger
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
- Plumbing Snake
- Wet/Dry Vaccum Cleaner
- Coat Hanger or Thin Wire
And in 6 simple steps you can maintain your bathroom on your own:
- Warm up a jug of water just shy of boiling and pour it directly down the drain. Let it stand for 15 minutes and follow up by using a round plunger on the tub drain.
- Remove the stopper and clean the underside where debris might have accumulated. After this use the coat hanger or thin wire to pull out whatever is clogging the drain until you’ve removed all of it.
- This step is the first bathroom tub drain remedy most people use, the round plunger. Now, you will take the plunger and place it right above the drain in order to create a vaccum inside. Plunge up and down several times. (Plunger is usually the easiest way to unclog a bathroom tub, if the clog isn’t too bad.)
- Combine 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda. As soon as the mixture begins to fizz, pour it down the drain as quickly as possible in order to allow the mixture to react with the clog. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then flush it out with more hot water. Repeat as necessary to remove the clog completely.
- If bathroom drain clogs are a regular part of your household problems a plumbing snake can be a good investment. It’s a steel cable with a spring that can be extended down the drain of a sink, tub, or toilet and is around 15 to 25 feet long. You can buy one at most hardware stores. To clear the clog in the tub drain, feed the snake down the drain slowly. The snake is the most popular plumbing supply.
- Set your wet/dry vaccum to liquids. Remove the filter and any inside bag and cover the vacuum vent. Put the hose over the tub drain and switch on the vacuum. The vacuum cleaner will suck up the debris in the tub drain and isolate it in the cleaner receptacle.
